Synopsis: First Knight of the Light

Written by Stephen C. Satterly, II

First Knight of the Light is an epic fantasy that bridges Irish, Scottish, and Welsh folklore, Arthurian legend, and a modern world on the brink of collapse. At its core is Caledfwlch, the legendary sword forged from the nails of Christ’s crucifixion by the wizard Myrddin Emerys (Merlin). Across centuries, the blade appears only in moments of great need, wielded by kings and champions who shape the moral direction of the world—until it vanishes after the death of King Arthur.

In the present day, humanity is spiritually fractured, isolated, and vulnerable. Crwydryn, a powerful Celestial, recognizes that mankind is failing and begins preparations for a new refuge for a select few humans: Byd Hud, a magical realm populated by elves, dwarves, centaurs, and other mythical peoples. But this world, too, is under threat. Queen Mab, embodiment of Shadow, and Mordred, Myrddin’s corrupted son, are uniting dark races—goblins, trolls, orcs, dark elves, and dark dwarves—into a force capable of destroying the Light on Byd Hud.

To oppose them, unlikely champions rise:

  • Svava, a Celestial Valcyru made mortal, trains Ragnar, a dwarf berserker struggling to recognize and control his terrifying power.
  • Robena, an exiled elven princess turned Warden, is defending the fragile balance of Byd Hud while fighting corruption within her own people.
  • Dydd and Noson, Sworn Protectors of Robena. Wardens who are Robena’s adoptive parents and leaders within the Wardens.
  • Octavius, Prince of the Centauri, Commander of the Royal Centauri Guard. He is given command of those Centaurs dedicated to the safety of the High King.
  • Artemis Duke Rell, a broken former Delta Force operator haunted by post-traumatic stress, is pulled from Earth by Myrddin and revealed to be the prophesied High King—the last heir to Arthur’s line.

Rell must survive a series of mythic trials—of Kingship, Fidelity, and Strength—while confronting his past, his guilt, and the cost of leadership. As alliances form among the races of the Light, love grows between Rell and Robena, binding human and Fae destinies together.

The story culminates in a brutal, world-shaping conflict as Mordred launches a final assault. Through sacrifice, unity, and hard-won trust, the champions of the Light stand together—not to preserve an old world, but to build a better one.

First Knight of the Light is a sweeping tale of redemption, leadership, and connection, asking whether broken people can still become the guardians of hope when the world needs them most.
